The feeling of Christmas will not be completed if there are no Christmas carols playing around. Every year, there are new Christmas songs introduced by the music industry. However, not all of them made a hit on the billboard chart. There are some Christmas songs that are already old, but still, they are the favourite of many people. With the great number of Christmas songs released, what songs do you think are the most loved by the people? Let us take a look at the top five greatest Christmas songs of all time.

White Christmas

“The White Christmas”, written by Irving Berlin, was released by Bing Crosby in 1942. It was first featured on the 1942 film, Holiday Inn. It was then again used in the movie “White Christmas” in 1954. Among the several Christmas carols, this song is believed to be the best-selling Christmas song of all time in United States of America, with an estimated sale of 50 million. Other famous singers like Andy Williams, Otis Redding, Shania Twain with Michael Buble, made their own versions of this song.

The Chipmunk Song

“The Chipmunk Song”, or otherwise known as “Christmas Don’t be Late”, became popular in 1958 when The Chipmunks band sung it. This song was written by David Seville, with a real name of Ross Bagdasarian. This Christmas carol became the most popular Christmas song in the US on the 1960s.

Rudolph, the Red Nosed Reindeer

Originally, “Rudolph, the Red Nosed Reindeer” is a poem written by Robert May, an American advertising executive, to be given to the kids on the department store. The musical version of this Christmas song was completed by Johnny Marks in 1949 and was sung by Gene Autry.

I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus

Aside from the other Christmas carols, this song became popular when it was released in 1952. It was originally sung by Jimmy Boyd and was written by Tommie Connor. Other singers like The Four Seasons, John Mellencamp, The Ronettes, The Jackson 5, and Jessica Simpson, released their own version of this song.

Jingle Bell Rock

The “Jingle Bell Rock” Christmas song was composed by Jim Boothe and Joe Beale, and sung by Bobby Helms, having the Anita Kerr Singers as his back-up vocals. This song first became a hit in 1957. It also became a hit when Bobby Rydell and Chubby Checker made their own version in 1961. Chet Atkins also released a new version of this song 1961Other versions include Brenda Lee’s in 1964, Daryl Hall’s and John Oates’ in 1983, Randy Travis’ in 1992, George Strait’s in 1999, and Aaron Tippin’s in 2001. All of these versions became a hit and popular.

There are other Christmas carols that became a hit, but these are the five most popular ones. Even today, almost everybody knows these songs. They are not just popular to adults and teens, but to kids as well. Without hearing these songs on this Christmas season, your Christmas will not be completed.
